Sandhya hails from a family of Carnatic musicians and patrons of the classical fine arts of South India.
Her maternal great-grand father, Late R. Venkatachari was the founder of the Jagannatha Bhakta Sabha, and the Sabha's music performances were conducted in Veda Vilas, Egmore which was the ancestral home of Sandhya's grandparents.
Sandhya's mother Smt. Radha Ayodhyanath who pursued Master's in Music from Bangalore University is her mentor and guide throughout her career. Sandhya's father Sri K.S. Ayodhyanath and her sister Smt. Shubha Sridhar play the Veena. Her parents love for music sowed the seeds of love for Sandhya, who grew up in an environment that resounded only with Carnatic music on radio and by regularly attending concerts in Bangalore and Chennai.
Sandhya initially was trained by a visually impaired music teacher, Late Janardhan. After which she joined Ayyanar College of Music in Bangalore. At this well known institution, run by Late Anoor S.Ramakrishna, Sandhya developed a deep sense of respect and bhakthi towards music. She learnt the veena as well from Late Mrs. Jayamma. Smt. Usha Char who taught music at this College of Music, helped and guided Sandhya. After her move to Chennai, she took advanced training lessons from Padmabhushan Sangeeta Kalanidhi Smt. Sudha Ragunathan and late Sangeeta Kalanidhi Sri T. M. Thiagarajan.
When Sandhya was in 9th grade she won the first rank in the Junior exam conducted by the Karanataka State Board. That was a turning point in her music journey which kick-started her involvement in competitions. Sandhya has won several prizes in her school, pre-university and college days. She has also performed at various venues in Bangalore as a budding artist. Sandhya has been actively involved in Spic Macay, college music competitions and in organizing programs as the music treasurer at Stella Maris College, India. After she moved to Muscat, Oman, her music journey continued and she was actively involved in Tamil Sangam, Thyagaraja Sammithi and in teaching music to interested students.
Sandhya is indebted to all her Gurus who sowed the seeds of love for Carnatic music right through her life.
